The key is that one vehicle will certainly get out of the woods.

Word on the street is that these are one of the most unreliable vehicles merc ever made lol. This is right in the middle of that real bad period of reliability issues

Friend of mine has a 2001 ML430 with some 200k miles and it runs fine... but his parents gave it to him a few years ago and they owned it since new.

Just invest in a good winch and about 15 miles of cable and you'll be fine ;)

Doesn’t someone on oppo have like 200k miles on theirs?
Also I had a coworker at my last job that had 250k miles on her ML320 and like 50k miles on a Crossfire. She was pretty cool. But she did have a personal friend that was a Mercedes mechanic, so take that for whatever its worth.

They are that cheap for a very good reason.

My wife’s has 170k, ML350. It's pretty rusty because New England, but aside from a water pump a few months ago it's been very reliable.

Damn that’s a lot, my friends’ XJ Cherokees don’t even have that much yet lol. One of my college buddies had an ML with similar mileage - the interior had disintegrated and it had pretty regular expensive issues, but it’s still going!

Yessir...I toured the plant in 1999 or 2000 and saw it for myself. Full-on truck construction, chassis and frame attached with just 8(?) bolts by one worker in about 60 seconds. It was pretty cool. They switched to unibody around 2004 or 05, IIRC.

The first year or two can have some quality issues, but 200k and higher is common with minimal repairs and normal maintenance. I’ve seen a few with that kind of mileage that are showroom perfect on the inside. Some have even done over 300k.
Don’t get me wrong, they’ll take more work than a similar vintage tacoma, but they’re not the nightmare the internet thinks they are.

I wouldn’t venture out too far without a friend following in another vehicle. Make sure you’ll have cell coverage at least.
